Bijish Babu, project partner and Expert in Computational Mechanics & Material Science at Aerobase Innovations AB, presented the key achievements and expected outcomes of the Flexcrash project during the CISMA project Kick-Off meeting held at Eurecat’s facilities in Manresa, Spain, on November 7th. The event brought together CISMA consortium members to define the project’s objectives and establish a roadmap for its initial phases of execution.
During his presentation, Bijish provided a comprehensive overview of Flexcrash, emphasizing its main objectives, anticipated impacts, and the advanced material models employed for crash simulations. A highlight was the focus on cutting-edge materials, such as high-performance aluminium alloys, which play a pivotal role in optimizing structural components to achieve significant weight reduction without compromising safety.
The meeting also showcased other European projects including: SALEMA, which has focused on recycled aluminium applications, Fatigue4Light, that has developed new tests and computer simulation methods to better estimate the fatigue life of chassis components, and COOPHS, a project under the RFCS program evaluating how eco-friendly steel processing affects the performance of ultrahigh strength Press Hardened Steels (PHS).
The CISMA project, funded under Horizon Europe, focuses on advancing the use of scrap-based steel to produce high-strength and high-formability alloys. By leveraging Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology, CISMA aims to meet the rising demand for sustainable materials in the automotive and consumer goods sectors, fostering the development of mass-market products with a reduced environmental footprint.
