The Flexcrash project was presented during the 35th Annual International Solid Freeform Fabrication Symposium (SFF) which took place from 11th – 14th of August in Austin, Texas (USA).
Project partner Francesco Bruzzo, Group Manager of Direct Energy Deposition and Hybrid Manufacturing at Fraunhofer IWS, participated in the session “Topology Optimization” delivering the Flexcrash’s presentation “Improve Frames’ Crash-Worthiness with AlSi10Mg Reinforcement Structures by DED-LB/P”.
The work presented introduced how Flexcrash project is gathering the materials properties information through 3-point bending tests instead of tensile testing with the objective to get the important properties to later design the reinforcement structures on the frames and predict through simulation the way the frame is going to bend and deform during a crash scenario.
The Annual International SFF – An Additive Manufacturing Conference, organised by the Mechanical Engineering Department/Lab for Freeform Fabrication, gathered more than 500 participants and 400 speakers and a programme with different sessions focused on diverse topics.
